Pre-treatment Instructions

• Hydrate - we recommend that for 7 days pre-treatment, you moisturize your skin in the morning and evening, and drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to completely hydrate your skin and optimize treatment results.

• If you have a history of cold sores, you may be provided antiviral prophylaxis prior to the procedure if you are undergoing a deeper peel to avoid an outbreak. The antiviral therapy should be started the day prior to your procedure and continued until the day after your procedure. Cold sores/fever blisters is an emergency and can lead to complication.

Topical retinoid therapy should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to treatment.

• Avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun for at least I month. If you must be in the sun, use a zine oxide sunscreen of at least SPF 30+.

• Depending on your skin type, you may be asked to use a topical bleaching agent for 6 weeks prior to your procedure.

• The morning of your procedure, avoid using substances such as hairspray, gel, makeup, lotions, deodorants, self-tanning products and ointments in the intended treatment area.

Post-Treatment Care

• The use of makeup during the first few days is not recommended. You may resume makeup application in 5-7 days once crusting has resolved and the skin is healed.

• Following treatment, excessive perspiration in the treated area may cause tissue disruption.

• Therefore, physical exercise (treadmill, yardwork, etc.) should be discontinued for the first 3 days to reduce the risk of infection and discomfort.

• There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently. Avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated area.

• For pain control, you can take Tylenol Extra Strength - 2 tablets every 12 hours, although generally not necessary.

• Avoid all pre-treatment skin care products. Use only the products outlined on your post-treatment regimen.

• You can contact us at any time if you are having an emergency. Just follow the instructions on our office line for an "emergency" call.
