Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that leads to plaques of red, itchy skin covered with silvery-white scales. Caused by a rapid over-production of skin cells, plaque psoriasis is the most common type and it is usually seen on the elbows, knees, and torso. Although psoriasis can clear for extended periods of time, it is never actually cured. Nowadays, however, there are many options for treatment. It is important to note that psoriasis has been linked to higher incidence of cardiovascular disease; patients and their doctor should be aware of this.
