Dermatitis is characterized by redness, itching, bumps or blisters caused by reactions to numerous substances and exposures like detergent, soap, personal care products, fragrances, medications and more. These reactions are usually classified as either irritant (irritant contact dermatitis) or allergic (allergic contact dermatitis). Most rashes are harmless and can be resolved quickly. If necessary, a biopsy of the skin can help determine the possible cause.
