Warts are benign, contagious skin growths that develop when a virus infects the top layer of the skin

Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear as hard, thick bumps of skin. These lesions can spread and are contagious, so treatment is recommended if they do not resolve on their own. Warts are treated by many different methods including topical acids, freezing, and immunotherapy.
